When I buy a printed book, I own and have control over that copy, MY copy. The publisher cannot alter the text after I have gotten it in my hand, eventually publish an errata eg on a web site. Depending on paper quality and environmental conditions, it can be readable for hundreds of years directly without any tool. A friend can borrow my copy. I can sell my copy. My copy can be inherited.

Above is not correct or more complicated when it comes to digital books.
