I've been looking at options to upgrade to from my Pixel 2 and have come to a conclusion: I wish I lived in Europe. Seriously the phones that interest me the most don't ship to Canada but only to parts of Europe. The Fairphone 4 and the The Shift6mq would be instant choices if I could have them shipped to Canada.
My basic wants are enough battery power to get me 14 hours without having to plug the phone in; a user replacable battery that can be popped in/out and purchased when needed; and support for an alternative OS. I'm not even very picky on the last part so long as I can run something other than Android; /e/ ; or iOS.
So far the choices I have in Canada that best fit my needs are the Teracube 2e; Volla X23; Volla 22; and Nitrophone 2a/Pixel 6a.
The Teracube 2e has the 4000 mAh user replacable battery but what worries me is only once in the last two years have I seen the battery in stock on their store so odds are when I need a new one I can't get it. The 2e also only runs Android or /e/ and I dislike both.
The Volla X23 and 22 have great 5000 mAh and 4500 mAh replacable batteries but from what I can tell I can't buy the battery from their store and can only buy it from their Indiegogo campaign when buying a phone so while I can get a spare right off the bat I may not be able to later on. They both support Volla OS and Ubuntu Touch so they're good from an OS standpoint for me. The X23 also lack options for cases at the moment.
The Pixel 6a/Nitrophone 2a supports GrapheneOS and has a 4410 mAh battery but not one that is user replacable. There are also a ton of choices for cases.
I own a Pinephone CE but I doubt a Pro or a Librem 5 get me the battery life I want without carrying around a battery pack or spare battery on me all day.
Overall i'm leaning towards the Volla X23 and just getting a spare battery upfront and a case off Ebay.
