@gardeningwell While that's not completely wrong, tips like that get (some) ppl to boost literally everything they somewhat like, which makes them kinda unfollowable.
A fav is a like, telling the author »cool stuff you did there«.
A boost is a super-like, saying »this is so cool, I want others to see it«.
Pretty much like hearts and retweets at birdsite, just without the algorithm stuff.
If you want your stuff spread, you can do it yourself by using #s and groups. Boosts are just an addition.
@lasseskrachen @gardeningwell What do you mean with "groups" above? Re too many boosts, I have used the feature for one or another to silence their boosts and only get their own messages, because they have been boosting too much to be desiable for me.
@hehemrin I didn't know such a feature exists :o
For groups, check out https://a.gup.pe, there is a list of existing »groups«. A group in here is an automated account ppl can follow. Whenever you mention a group, your toot will be automatically boosted to all followers.
On mentioning a non-existing group in the style of @account @a.gup.pe, a group will be automatically created.
Those features shouldn't be overused / abused tho, of course.
@lasseskrachen Aho, oki, thanks, then I'll check what it is. Re silence boosts, go to the three dots in that persons profile, 2nd row. That is in web browser, if your instance is set up as mine.
@lasseskrachen I think it’s been there before. Here it is in the docs: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/moderating/#hide-boosts
