Linux, Wikipedia, Mastodon. All of them built by strange, intrinsically motivated people.

All of them are full of problems and flaws that are hard and maybe impossible to fix.

But at the end of the day, these things help us and keep the wonders of the Internet alive, because they come out of a deep understanding that humanity needs giving more than taking.

@johl And still people run around and claim that nobody would work anymore if there were a universal basic income as if this were a law of nature.

Imagine hating your job so much that it makes you overlook the obvious.

@hllizi Oh I'm sure many people would still do work, but I think the distribution of work would be all wrong. There are jobs that need done that most people would rather avoid. And many people would rather play games and have fun all day; less work would get done.
