are people already familiar with this story about hard-boiled eggs or did i just stumble upon an absolute gem of a cautionary tale about algorithmic perfection? (annals of the history of computing, january 1983, volume 5, issue 1)

I love e-ink ereaders because they're like this vestige of when tech was good

The battery lasts like a month

They work fine (better) without an internet connexion

You can interact with them using the file manager and it's perfectly good

The files are an open format

It isn't surveillance ad-tech

Sick of people calling everything in crypto a Ponzi scheme. Some crypto projects are Pump-and-Dump schemes, while others are Pyramid schemes. Others are just middlemen skimming off the top. Others are just standard-issue fraud.

Stop glossing over the diversity in the industry.

We took some time and released a transcription of the Weathering Software Winter talk with links for most things that were mentioned and that might have needed additional context.

I have performed an unscientific survey of people who are working in coding and cybersecurity to see what language they use most often.

The result: profanity.

@eff Phone numbers should never be used for 2FA. Use an authentication app instead.

@e@ichii.moe If you can connect to wi-fi (or any wireless network) then you should be fine. Some countries use different frequency bands (I think) thus my previous comment. Don't think that using your own router could be a problem.

@e@ichii.moe I would guess that you will not be able to download books due to different wireless configurations. You should be able to download and install books manually.

@dallin Haven't published anything but have viewed videos from others on LBRY and it works well

developers having powerful development hardware is actively harmful to usable software existing

there is literally an order of magnitude of power difference between the machines many developers use to create their software and the machines that their users will have - and that's assuming the users have brand new (but average) hardware

today's developers write software pretending that there will always be infinite resources, because the computers we have *let* them do that without consequences

@ky0ko I remember John Romero saying how useful it is to have a more powerful machine to develop on (hence why #Doom and #Quake were developed on NeXT), but he also said that every Dev should have a minimum-spec consumer machine right next to their workstation, to make sure it still works even on the lowest hardware.

But instead, we have the current versions of #Microsoft Office that can't even run properly on a 2 GHz laptop with 8 GB of RAM. >:(
