My FireFox just informed me the certificate of zerohedge.com has expired today. You know, such shit always happens when the dudes named Ben finally get a short vacation.

@MartinJJ it's a free Let's Encrypt cert. The renewal process happens every few weeks by default, and must have broken a couple of months ago.

I'll admit it, for myself: I don't actually have monitoring or notifications for my Let's Encrypt processes. :^)

I think a certbot cron job should be at least weekly. It won't renew if the cert is *so far* out from expiring.
If your server sends mail, adding MAILTO= at the top of your crontab may cause it to start spamming you.
