Abraham Lincoln was NO friend of the black people. He wanted the power of a united goonerment goonsquad and he stated as much in this letter (yes, it's real). STOP making goonerment goons out to be heroes!

@ChristianAnarchist "I have here stated my purpose according to my view of official duty; and I intend no modification of my oft-expressed personal wish that all men everywhere could be free." -- He's saying that he is following his oath to uphold the constitution (which allowed state choice at that time), **despite** his moral opposition to slavery.
If the Union was never reunited, one could argue that 'slave states' and 'free states' would still be a thing.
