In the Lac-Mégantic on July 6, 2013, an unattended 73-car freight train carrying crude oil rolled down a 1.2% grade and derailed in the Canadian town Lac-Mégantic. Multiple tank cars exploded, killing 47 people and destroying roughly half of all buildings in the town centre. It is the deadliest in 's history.
