I have a HP Elite book 845 G7 that I picked up cheap from an IT recycling company.

One of the weird things about it is it has a DC barrel jack but can also charge off of USB-C PD. (Haven't actually tried the PSU that came with it)

The question is Why did they even bother with a barrel jack, its not a super high end machine and the PSU is 65w so well within USB-C PD specs.

@Dragon my guess is that it has to do with how laptops are made from components, I think they pick a base laptop design which is the same as many other laptop brands are using (which in this case included a DC barrel jack) and then they add some other components like USB ports and things, that may or may not have charging capability. It's not like they design the laptop from scratch, it's more like they pick from a somewhat limited set of components.
