The European Union and Big Tech
My partner frequently says that Aotearoa New Zealand should join the EU. He sees them making at least some sensible moves to protected their own populations and national interests from predatory multi-national tech giants.
Certainly the evidence is now clear: if you regulate Big Tech, you get a better product. So perhaps as a starter on our regulatory journey, we could implement an antipodean equivalent of the DMA. https://mashable.com/article/5-best-new-ios-features-eu-dma
The European Union and Big Tech
@leighelse I think this illustrates the fact that certain companies (in this case Apple) have become far too big so that "market forces" or whatever you call it no longer work to the benefit of users/consumers.
Normally you expect a company to try to make good products, to attract customers. But these companies don't do that, because they are so big, they just own all the customers and profit from them like a rancher profits from cattle. Capitalism is failing.
