@leighelse I don't know anything about that issue but if it really is a monopoly as you say, then yes, I think it would be better to have the government run it instead, and then break it up.
As monopolies go, I suspect that a private corporation-owned monopoly will always, always be bad for society. With a government-run monopoly there is at least a possibility that it could be good, or at least not terribly bad. And, at least in theory, people could have influence on it via politics.
