(In case you were thinking of learning/using Go, I’d say skip it. There are plenty of other fish in the sea. Unless you like telemetry by default in your programming languages and tools, that is. In fact, just don’t touch anything tainted by Google if you can help it.)

@aral This is part of why I'm more afraid of Google than other tech giants, it's the creepy way they have of doing "open" and "free" things making everyone dependent on them, everyone using things they control without even thinking about it.

I like being independent. I like being able to do something on my own, something I decide to do, without anyone else needing to know about it.

@eliasr … and then came the takeover of web development my Microsoft: Typescript, Github, vscode, Edge. They now start with proprietary language servers, because if you have de-facto control, why not tighten it? *shudder* @aral

Ah, maybe I should be equally afraid of Microsoft.

I think the deeper danger with these things is that in the long run, it makes people forget what it even means to be free and independent. People will no longer understand the concept of freedom.
