Even if I wanted to buy one, they are not available to me being in Australia!

But why would it not be possible to buy a FairPhone in Australia? Seems ridiculous, it must be possible to get around that?

@eliasr @Horizon_Innovations @Fairphone

The manufacturer is a relatively small independent company based in Europe.

Due to different standards, laws etc, it takes a lot of money and resources to support a hardware product globally, I am guessing this is the main barrier?

@FediFollows

Sure it's a small company, but for comparison it seems like Purism has been sending Librem 5 phones to lots of places around the world including Australia. Purism is also a small company, they have lots of difficulties with delays, but still it seems they can deliver to most countries. There can be extra costs for customs and/or taxes depending on the country, but it's not impossible. So I'm wondering why the same is not possible for FairPhone.

@eliasr @Horizon_Innovations @Fairphone

As far as I know, Purism doesn't guarantee fair wages or safe working conditions through the supply chain.

That might be the crucial extra complication that Fairphone has to deal with which Purism doesn't?

(I assume it's not import taxes as the person ordering can pay that?)

But to be honest I am not an expert on manufacturing, consumer standards or export laws, so I am having to just guess!
