@bboett @EUCommission No, they can't. There's no remote "off button". US could however withdraw spare parts shipment, repair services, etc. which in the long term could render US-made weapons inoperable. For some weapons it doesn't matter that much, but others (like planes) need constant maintenance.
@parrot33 @EUCommission "How can they allow to spend even more for military spendings?"
By not applying normal borrowing limits to rearmament spending and by allowing countries to spend the remainder of post-pandemic relief funds on rearmament. This is what EU commission is proposing.
@Pare @EUCommission Unfortunately some countries are very aggressive and the only way to stop them from waging war is to be armed. Thus, having a lot of tools to kill people allows us to prevent killing people.
It's the hedgehog strategy. Hedgehog's spikes are sharp, but they are used for defence.
@GrowingForJustice @eff Seems to work now.
@Edizionilazio @noelreports We also need more initiatives that don't require everyone to participate. Hungary blocks support to Ukraine? OK, then their contribution to EU budget won't be used for that, but everyone else's will. Ireland blocks bans on sending EU citizen data to US? OK, then Irish citizen data can be sent there, but everyone else's data can't.
@Azarilh That's a great approach!

5 March 1945 | Shlomo Dragon, former Sonderkommando prisoner, recovered the manuscript of Załmen Gradowski near the ruins of gas chamber & crematorium III at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. @Faket @EUCommission Many voters already hate the push toward electric cars. They vote for extremist parties as a form of protest. If mainstream politicians were to push for eliminating cars altogether, EU members would quickly switch from being centrist democracies to being extremist quasi-dictatorships.
@gunstick @EUCommission There is no killswitch, but US could achieve the same goal by refusing to provide spare parts, ammunition, generation of new encryption keys, and other forms of support. Especially air forces would be very vulnerable to this.
@gpilz @EUCommission As far as I know, thanks to public healthcare, we spend less money on healthcare than the US, not more. US system with layers upon layers of intermediaries is costly and inefficient.
@chbmeyer @EUCommission This. We need to expand our use of open source software to replace foreign proprietary software. This is how we can restore control, our digital autonomy.
@radwan@mastodon.world @noelreports Accidentally killing civilians when attacking legitimate targets is not considered a war crime, which is why Russia can get away with regularly killing Ukrainian civilians in air strikes.
“Your driving data goes to a half a dozen companies you’ve never even heard of for reasons you’d perhaps never agree to if asked directly,” EFF’s @Thorin told @ConsumerReports. https://www.consumerreports.org/electronics/personal-information/how-to-stop-your-car-from-collecting-sharing-driving-data-a1233378612/
The EU is paying a fortune for broken commercial software, criticizes Michiel Leenaars of the Dutch NLnet Foundation in an interview with netzpolitik.org. Together with his team, he supports open-source, free solutions — funded by the EU. But that could soon come to an end.
@fdroidorg It's a shame that FUTO Keyboard is under a custom noncommercial use license rather than a proper free software license.
@EUCommission Monitoring is huge. So many policies are introduced without ever monitoring their effects.
@davidrevoy I still use Firefox, but I disabled sending any data to Mozilla.
Thanks for not contributing to Chromium monopoly. :)

@Gurre @noelreports Russians are decreasing their use of armored vehicles because their stocks are dwindling. They are also building two new armies, so plenty of vehicles were diverted there.
If you look at personnel losses, 1150 is still a lot.
