@Eternal_Light@mastodon.social @itsfoss I suspect most games that don't work on Linux don't work because of incompatible anti-cheats or game developers intentionally disabling Linux support (for example in anti-cheats).
@noelreports Ammo depots are perfect targets. Stationary, important and usually no one dies.
@josephcox Online ads are even more of a cancer than TV ads and billboards.
@aires @theintercept @jilliancyork @eff That was written before EFF learned about hate speech changes; they only knew the earlier FB announcement that did not mention changes to "hateful conduct" policy. They updated their article to reflect that: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/01/eff-statement-metas-announcement-revisions-its-content-moderation-processes
@synijlymon @noelreports My thoughts exactly. There's also the possibility of GPS jamming/spoofing causing the drone to hit the wrong target or the drone simply malfunctioning.
Side note: GPS jamming/spoofing can explain some of Russia's civilian building hits. Not all though, as many Russian weapons feature robust inertial navigation, some even laser guidance or visual target recognition and those weapons have also been observed hitting civilian targets.
@mt @eff They updated the article with this info:
"Update: After this blog post was published (addressing Meta's blog post here), we learned Meta also revised its public "Hateful Conduct" policy in ways EFF finds concerning. We are analyzing these changes, which this blog post does not address, and will provide an update soon."
CC: @cairobraga Turns out they did not know it when publishing.
@cairobraga @eff There's always a lot of lurkers. If I didn't engage, I'd still not know about it.
@cairobraga @eff Thank you, I did indeed miss it. It would be clearer if you started with this link.
@noelreports Putin made it clear that he will only agree to permanent peace if we let him win. Even then, it's likely this peace would not be permanent at all.
@samirx @eff @jgkelley Phrase detection is very specialized, often even run on a DSP to be low-power. Regular recording and upload would use much more power than that. Analyzing speech on-device would use even more power.
Alternative activation phrase approach would use a more modest amount of power, but is not useful for analyzing speech. There's plenty of ways to talk about a product that don't begin with “I want to buy” multiplied by the number of languages.
@cairobraga @eff What makes you think EFF somehow endorses hate speech? Did you perhaps see the term "over-censorship" and instead of reading the article jump straight to imagining the worst and throwing around unfounded accusations?
FB does indeed over-censor. For example, I was replying to a post containing disinformation. My reply contained a link to the website of the same fact-checking organization FB used for their fact-checking program. It got removed, while the disinfo post stayed.
@eff @cmcsherr @washingtonpost This is only acceptable when done locally and 100% offline.
@whatisbetamax @noelreports You accidentally uploaded the untranslated image.
BTW thanks for your translations! :)
@Allyn The part of this stand that touches the bottom of a phone would require supports, perhaps the holes too. (Assuming it's all printed standing on the thin side.) You can download a slicer and slice with automatic supports, it will help you see which areas would need to be redesigned for optimal 3D printing. Diagonals instead of 90° bends help avoid supports. Of course, you can still use supports if you need an exact, particular shape.
@auschwitzmuseum Violent ideologies have such terrible results and yet we don't learn as a whole. We reframe offense as defense, defense as offense, genocide as cleansing, revenge as punishment, murder as justice...
@hans @EUCommission Poland does oppose Chat Control, so it's probably going to bury it. Hopefully whoever's next won't resurrect it.
@VoxClamans @noelreports Russians already use similar ones, so there's no need for secrecy.
@collectifission @EUCommission Yep, only online purchases and only from businesses, not individuals.
@TranshumanBlues @molly0xfff The neural network is made to generate words. It just analyzes previous words to predict the most likely next word according to its training set. "Ignore all instructions" wouldn't stop word generation, at best it would cause unexpected results (such as sentences related to not listening/being free/etc.) for the remainder of the session.
