Eight municipalities are already testing DAWO, the government's NixOS-powered work environment.

@itsfoss DAWO is presented today as digital autonomy for government. Fine. But OpenAI was also born as a nonprofit. The real question is what happens after adoption: OS → infrastructure → data → AI → coordination. We should watch what DAWO becomes, not just what it is called.

@2k_115 @itsfoss If it's open source, it doesn't matter much. If one org goes bad, another org can fork everything and continue on its merry way.

@elgregor A fork replicates code, not necessarily the system. Empirically, complex infrastructures accumulate data, integrations, contracts, users, compute and institutional dependencies around the software. Once those layers converge, “just fork it” is technically possible but structurally far less simple.

@2k_115 It's complicated, sure, but it's doable and has happened many times.
