Does anyone else find the account setup for KMail kinda... not good? I like a complete setup that doesn't gloss over stuff like ports or authentication type, but even setting up an account I have configured in other clients successfully, I failed to actually get it to work here. Tbh, it gives me a bit of an abandonware vibe.

Anyway, as much as I'm not generally a fan of the GNOME way of doing things, at least on the desktop, Geary was comparatively painless. Despite hiding away basically all of the complexity of email account config, it auto-configured everything correctly and I went from new install to a functioning inbox in under a minute.

@gordoooo_z Not really? Worked fine for me for several accounts. The only thing I recently suffered from in KMail was that it was sometimes stopping pulling new messages until akonadi account was restarted, but I think the last time I noticed it was a few weeks ago already so perhaps it got fixed meanwhile.

@dos I suspect if I were syncing up a Gmail or Outlooks or whatever, it probably would have done all the work for me without issue. In this case it's a custom domain email with Rackspace, and the interface is a little ambiguous when it comes to outbound authentication (I set it to LOGIN, but doing so did not reveal a password field? I kinda just assumed it would use the same one as the inbound, but in the end, neither worked. I'm sure I could have figured it out, but in this particular case I don't really care about the specific client enough to want to try lol)

@gordoooo_z Authentication method is in "Advanced" tab, while password field is in "General" tab.

@dos huh, weird. Maybe I'll give it another go when I'm on my laptop (primary work device where I'm more likely to actually use a desktop email client regularly)
