"Where to buy a non-Apple, non-Google smartphone"
https://www.theregister.com/2026/05/01/buy_a_foss_fondleslab/
I use a #Librem5 #Linux #phone. With the default #PureOS operating system.
Enjoy your #freedom, break free from #Google and #Apple.
Have a full Linux computer in your pocket that you can also use for calling.
Questions? Ask me.
@janvlug How is the PWA support? Can you install PWAs? How's the battery? Is receiving phone calls and SMS reliable? How often do you need to reboot it? I've a Librem 5 in the drawer and don't feel like taking it out ever again. It's too hot all the time: 34 °C.
@codo @janvlug
You can easily turn any website into a webapp, whether it's defined as a PWA or not. Pic related.
Battery, in my experience: 4-5 hours of active use; 12-14 hours of idling without sleeping; 22-24 hours in system suspend where it wakes up from calls and SMS.
Calls and SMS have been reliable for me here in Poland, but it's always subject to carrier compatibility now with VoLTE.
In general there's no need to reboot at all unless updating or working on the kernel.
@dos @janvlug Thank you both for the answers. I'd love to see Purism get better and more widely available, but I'm not prepared to be an adopter yet. I used to think my requirements were quite minimal, but when using the Librem I've realized all the functionality that I've been taking for granted on /e/OS.
@dos @janvlug I just read in thread from a few weeks back that the modem data connections is unreliable for three years. https://fosstodon.org/@mrlakes@mastodon.nl/116368650601409490
Unfortunately modem data still breaks now and then. To place it in perspective, I loose mobile internet at most once in a few days nowadays. Lack of connectivity is clearly indicated by an icon in the top bar when it happens, so you are at least aware of it.
I have the impression that this connectivity loss happens less and less, but that is a subjective impression. Maybe I should try to measure to be more exact.
@dos
Wow. Good to hear. I have patience, and I can handle inconvenience to have freedom. And the inconvenience regarding the connectivity loss nowadays is very minor.
Thanks for all your work, every update the #Librem5 is getting better, highly appreciated!
