@neil So did I, also the N950 and N9. It's kinda hard-breaking that the next Linux phone, the Librem 5, is worse in every way than everything that preceded it, including all Nokia, Palm, Firefox and Ubuntu phones.

@halla @neil Aside from the fact that this is a comparison between elephants (Nokia) and mice (Purism and PINE64) in terms of resources, part of the deficiencies are just due to hardware choices. These phones are basically SBCs with LTE Modem and touchscreen, they don't use SoC that are made for the phone use case. Purism targeted the FSFs RYF certification (ryf.fsf.org/), hence all these choices you would not otherwise make. It's amazing that these devices work as well as they do.

@linmob @halla @neil It took me a while to get used to Librem 5's size after switching from N900, but ultimately it's a step up. Not having to deal with PowerVR takes it places N900 could never go.

@dos @linmob @neil I might have gotten a lemon, but mine was too hot to touch when it was on stand-by, the software didn't work at all and even the initial on-boarding procedure was different from the manual. After a couple of days, I gave it away to someone who wanted to use it as a test device to develop another Linux-based mobile OS.

Nowadays, I'm using a #FairPhone5 , and I'm pretty satisfied with it. Though Android still sucks. As do Windows, iPadOS and MacOS.

@halla @linmob @neil I too used to use my Librem 5 as a portable hand heater back in 2020, but these days are long gone. I'm typing this on my phone and it's barely warm right now. It can still get quite hot, but much too slowly to be useful this way ;)
