I'm curious about the shape of dominant perceptions of the "monkey wrench" puzzle in #MonkeyIsland 2. Were you familiar with the term before playing? Did you like/appreciate the puzzle? #RetroGaming #pointandclick

@Cheeseness german, so didn't get it at the time, but worth it for the animation that plays imo

@lritter We call them pipe wrenches here in Australia, so I didn't make the "monkey wrench" association till years later too. The animation *is* fun!

@Cheeseness a save could have been to simply have this world be a world in which monkey wrenches are a thing. that would have been as easy as adding a conversation about plumbing somewhere else in the game

@lritter True! There are many other puzzles in the game that have no clues/cues though, so it's not unusual for MI2 in that regard (and the first game too, I suppose - I've seen people compare it to the "red herring" and "how to get ahead" puzzles in Monkey 1 as things puzzles generally aren't understood as jokes until after they're solved)

@Cheeseness @lritter I guess it's the differrence between an aha moment ("aaah, that makes sense, clever! should have thought about it earlier!") and a confusion moment ("why the hell did it work? how were I supposed to figure it out on my own?")
