Well, you're looking at the US made edition. The China made edition was below 1000 a few weeks ago, but due to supply chain problems and low demand, had to be raised. There are many reasons why it is more expensive than the PP, but the main one is that Purism invested millions in software development (which also helps the PP). Therefore I support them, despite all valid criticism.

A wie "Alphabet", M wie "Meta", und Z wie "Zoom". Ob wir wohl ein ganzes Überwachungs-ABC zusammenbekämen?

@gamer my parents run linux just fine. it just works for them.
this preconception you have that linux requires tinking & fixing & debugging: it's your conception. it's one widely held, and this conception is, more than Linux, what holds linux back from adoption. there is a poisonous mindset about what linux is & how it works.
linux does need to make gains too. but it's hard to figure out how to help, when it's shallow & narrow preconceptions that try to steer the conversation.
I’ve been making veiled comments about a situation in the Linux desktop community for a while, and I think it’s finally time to lift the curtain: https://blogs.gnome.org/christopherdavis/2021/11/10/system76-how-not-to-collaborate/
System76 has not been kind downstream, and they’ve made a habit of talking poorly about their upstream projects and then using that as a jumping point to market their own projects.
I think in the end, history has shown upstreams to be in the right more often than not, and that egocentric model of former employers to be a detriment.
But honestly, I just wish people would freaking work together on solving issues instead of starting spats on social media.
Hard to belive but Nextcloud is the most popular collaboration software in Germany. Ahead of Microsoft, Google, Dropbox and many others. This is the result of a voting of over 60.000 IT professionals. https://nextcloud.com/blog/first-in-germany-again/
in light of recent events
It's NOT OK to use #zoom as a video conference "solution" for your anti-capitalist meetup (oh, the irony!) or group or whatever.
Or even a regular conference.
Those seemingly innocuous "tools" aren't really free.
It's not a neutral choice. It excludes critical people.
So please, PLEASE if you know an expert, DO ASK THEM FIRST before deciding based on what you think you know!
They might well be able to help out with something that's just as good but ethical.
