Lazyweb: anyone know a secure, preferably FOSS, remote access tool like TeamViewer? I am helping a friend with computer stuff and want to be able to remote in.

@greyor I use vncviewer, which is available (in a couple variations) on any Linux. It's fully FOSS. I use SSH (port forwarded to the computer in question) to do port redirection as required. It has the major advantage over TeamViewer of not requiring you trust an external 'meeting point' out on the web, and it doesn't require you install painfully invasive proprietary software on both computers. Yuck.

FWIW, TeamViewer does not require Installation. There's a tar package available that can just be extracted and run with a click (deps must be satisfied)
The QuickSupport package likewise, but less deps and better guidance. Easier than explaining port forwarding on the phone. 😏
