And I cant stress enough how easy it is to switch instances and take your data (except one thing) with you!
The only thing thats missing is the ability to take your posts with you to the new instance. Without that ability you probably leave a trail of old accounts that forward (maybe even over multiple hops) to your currently used account.

I wondered already some times whether it would be possible in an acceptable way to import old toots into a self-hosting server over which one has complete control.

Also I'd find it interesting to move my stuff sometimes to microblog. Is there a way to import exports from astodon, @dev ?

@tdk@fosstodon.org There's no wait to import content (at least in microblogpub).

In theory, you could import objects via a script, but then, you would still lose all the interactions and the URL/ID will not be the same.
