@Fairphone I can't find anything about how open the hardware is. Have you been able to remove the closed binary blobs in this phone ?

@ken_fallon @Fairphone
That's probably the only pain point I have: Fairphone is using Qualcomms Snapgragon. They are know for not being supportive for older chips (that's why Google wants to move away from them) and they are known for their blobs and their closed design. Still probably better than the MediaThek CPUs in cheaper phones. But longterm, I would wish for something like a fair #librem5 with an #iMX8 #NXP chip and at the same time with decentralized and sustainable supply-chains.

@aligyie @ken_fallon @Fairphone I understand why is building phones using Qualcomm chips (others are not fast enough for masses or not optimized for mobile) but if they really want to build a sustainable smartphone in long term they must at least have a community edition phone with open hardware and let the community build the software like @PINE64 is doing ...

@aligyie @ken_fallon @Fairphone ... Otherwise Qualcomm doesn't really have much reason to support their chips for longer and fair phone would have to keep wasting their developer time to support chips beyond Qualcomm's support (which I believe is a pathetic 2-3 years). Having a open alternative gives Qualcomm a good reason to provide longer support as they will see the potential for losing out to competition.
