Fun fact - #layoffs are a social connection amongst businesses, and do little (to nothing) to actually help companies recover during economic downturns.
Don’t take my word for it - this comes from years of study and scholarly research:

I wrote 8,000 words on Mastodon, Twitter, and owning your data—from the perspective of someone that worked at Twitter for nine years.
And in other #hacking news: “Twitter data dump: 200m+ account database now free to download: No passwords, but plenty of stuff for social engineering and doxxing” :-( by #TheRegister https://www.theregister.com/2023/01/05/twitter_leak_200m_accounts/ #edtechSR #security
So many years we fought with the Twitter API. I love that if you want an RSS of someone's Mastodon feed, you just add .rss at the end of their URL. Open Web, my friends. https://hachyderm.io/@shanselman.rss
Woo hoo! Figured out how to code my RSS feed to have both news database listings and image gallery updates! https://adamlein.com/rss.php

Glad I switched to Keepass back when eWallet didn't support Windows Phone 7. The #Keepass ecosystem is so much more diverse and sustainable. #LastPass #LastPassHack @keepassxc
Really cool seeing a little presentation from James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington, and Stephen Lang after watching Avatar 2 at Lincoln Square. #Avatar
After seeing Avatar 2 again last night, I heard a guy in the lobby yell, "Papyrus!!!" Which is a reference to the below video. James Cameron had seen that SNL skit and decided to double down on the Papyrus font, so everything in the movie was Papyrus! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVhlJNJopOQ Hilarious!! #Design #Typography #Avatar
Oh hell yeah. @mozilla is launching a Mastodon instance in early 2023! I’m very excited for this. Mozilla is really good at what they do. Firefox has over 200M monthly active users, and with any luck they’ll build better support for the fediverse into Firefox itself. Mastodon will greatly benefit from easy to use professionally run instances that can handle massive scaling https://blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/mozilla-launch-fediverse-instance-social-media-alternative/
So I understand that the bird site has started blocking links to common/known Mastodon instances, and that doesn't seem like free speech to me. So... I did a thing.
If you go to https://spacekaren.sucks it is now a URL shortener that blocks the twitter user agent. That means you can share that link that will redirect to your Mastodon account without the pouty baby stopping you. If you find this helpful can you boost so others can find it? #TwitterMigration #Mastodon #Musk #introduction
If you want to link your #Mastodon account on #Twitter, you can use a URL shortener to bypass the filter that #SpaceKaren put in place. I can highly recommend this one: https://spacekaren.sucks
I made an archive of all 60,000+ of my tweets to put on my own website using Tweetback and @eleventy. Since this is a pretty useful thing to be able to do, I wanted to write up how I did it in detail; it's still a bit of a technical process, but hopefully a step-by-step guide will help more people be able to do it.
