Using Twitter for microblogging is like using AOL for Internet.

Note that if you're on a server with multiple columns, and want a simpler style feed experience, look for "Enable advanced web interface" in Preferences and uncheck the box.

(checkbox check equals columns)

Alternatively if you currently do not have the columns style (and want columns to get the most of the web browser's window in full screen, for example), then check the box :-)

Thinking of creating your own #Fediverse instance?

I've just overhauled the table on this wiki page to show you what your options are for managed hosting.

Helping journalists start their own instance might be one of the most helpful ways to support Mastodon.

People with big followings are starting to move to the first instance they learn about, e.g., mastodon.social. Their local feed is too noisy. The instance is slow, struggles with the grow.

An instance for journalists would help them bootstrap their network, enrich the feed of all of us. Journalists can start following the people on other instances related to their beat.

Did you know you can add #fediverse account feeds to your #RSS reader? #Mastodon101

As an example, here is a URL for my account: mastodon.sdf.org/@cosullivan.r

Model: Https://[instanceDomain]/[@username].rss

I don't know why I can't get my site to work right on the . It says "4 posts", but none show, and I don't know how to accept follow requests. @adamz

I read this elsewhere: If trusted news outlets would start offering #Mastodon instances to their staff, that would bring some sort of verification and visibility. Think social.nytimes.com, social.heise.de etc. I'd love to read more from trusted journalists on the #fediverse and this could greatly help. (Again, not my idea but couldn't find the original author.) Boosts for visibility would be great. Reminder: Favorites don't help as on this other platform.

In the USA, there's a special cellular network for public safety professionals. I got to learn a lot about some of the tech that's being used with it. pocketnow.com/this-firstnet-te

Want to cross-verify your identity on Mastodon but don't have your own website?

If you're on GitHub, you can set up something similar with GitHub Pages

1. Add simple index.html file to GitHub repo
2. Enable GitHub Pages in Settings
3. Link in Mastodon profile
4. Voila

Users are not designers, and "doing what the user asks" is a bad design strategy.

However, I see stakeholders saying this to justify another, even worse design strategy: "doing what the stakeholder asks."

*Everyone's* change requests are data points, starting points.

Currently studying my Twitter archive data to figure out the requirements for importing Tweets to the fediverse. You can see my current rubberducking here: https://codeberg.org/postmodern/fediverse-importer/issues/2

#Suggestion: Point #TwitterMigration to the Fediverse so not everyone is flocking to a Mastodon instance.

You see, the network is the #Fediverse, the underlying tech is #ActivityPub (which is a #WebStandard).

Mastodon is, but one of many flavours connected to the Fediverse network. There is no “Mastodon network” or "Pleroma network” or “MissKey network”, they are all “Fediverse network”.

Promote the Fediverse. That is what who we are.

I really want an HP Dev One, but I already have so many laptops!

Exporting an ePUB file from is kind of a mess, but Sigil eBook editor is great for cleaning up the code!
