@yestergearpc Also, Happy Thanksgiving! Tell my cousin I said so too. :)
@yestergearpc Damn, that's a crazy good deal! I want to learn how to do Kernel Virtual Machines since that's supposed to have great performance. Currently using VirtualBox which isn't that great.
@rysiek That kind of talk is over my head. :) But their contribution forums are really helpful and responsive with feature proposal ideas and such: https://support.delta.chat/
@yestergearpc Also, did you ever see my comparision between Linux and Chrome OS on the same $60 hardware? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtJJ4r6O4co&t=3s
@yestergearpc Nice. I really need to build a new Plex server/VM workstation. Procrastinating too much.
@yestergearpc On the other hand, I may have too many laptops hanging around. :)
@yestergearpc Totally. I converted a couple Chromebooks to Gallium Linux for the kids a while back. XFCE is so efficient. Super useful even on 4Gb RAM.
@rysiek Love it! Even does Jitsi video calling. My article about it was very popular last year. https://pocketnow.com/10-ways-delta-chat-is-better-than-whatsapp-signal-and-telegram/
Ooh, this might be a good Linux laptop for $99. https://www.microcenter.com/product/652909/asus-br1100cka-ys02-116-laptop-computer-gray
@ThePaulMcBride Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that project. That was started years ago, right? I'll have to see what's new.
@BryceWrayTX@fosstodon.org @kwf Ah, do Admins have only block lists or also allow lists? With email I can block everything that isn't a contact/domain in my allow list.
@BryceWrayTX@fosstodon.org @kwf Yeah, I'm pretty sure an instance like that would get banned by everyone in less than an hour, right?
congrats to @conservancy for doing the right thing and standing up a dedicated instance for their organization
@alexstandiford @chris Agree!! The plug-in is a start, but it needs more work and the ability to follow/respond to others instead of just broadcasting WP posts & accepting replies on the Fedi. https://wordpress.org/plugins/activitypub/
@thunderbird Here's some tips about mobile app design. If you're holding a phone, normal humans can't reach buttons at the top of the screen with their thumb without using a 2nd hand. It's better to put the buttons where fingers can reach them so that buttons are easier to use. https://bookofadamz.com/smartphone-graphic-user-interface-design-tips/ #UX #Design
@feinzer @benpate @blaine Yeah, the only messaging protocols that aren't designed to screw people over are Matrix, XMPP, Briar, Bitmessage, IRC, and Email. Mastodon already has email support for server-user private messages. We COULD use that for user-user private messages by putting a form on profiles that only appears for non-blocked visitors. Could even use a listserv for better privacy like Craigslist, and/or integrate a conversation reader. It would work independent of instance platform.
