Secure Scuttlebutt is meant to solve a specific problem: how to deliver social media in communities with intermittent Internet connectivity or no connectivity at all.

For this reason it’s quite popular amongst boaters, indigenous communities, and anyone who lives off-grid.

The way to receive messages via Secure Scuttlebutt (SSB) is typically twofold:

1. Peer-to-Peer (P2P)
2. Friend-of-a-Friend (FOAF)

There may or may not be a permanent node directing messages.

Your messages can be sent through a typical internet connection, or something else entirely (such as Bluetooth).
