One of the things I would miss here on Mastodon was all of the alerts from my local infrastructure and government twitter accounts. These will likely take a very long time to make the migration.

With bird.makeup, you can create bot accounts that put those tweets in your Mastodon timeline. For instance, I follow the Washington State Patrol account for regional weather related road closures and accident reports:

@awilbert @wspd7pio @vincent I made a number of alerts and unfortunately, they seem to be appearing in clumps from the original Twitter account days after they were posting, which drastically reduced the utility. :( Iโ€™m guessing this is a limitation of the Twitter api?

@cautionwip @awilbert @wspd7pio No, it's because bird.makeup is very loaded at this moment. My goal with the optimizations I'm doing is that tweets are replicated within an hour, but we are more at like 4-5 hours behind right now

@vincent @awilbert @wspd7pio Thanks for the update! I added things like the BC Wildfire alerts and those (like transit and driving updates in winter weather) can be pretty time sensitive. Thanks for doing this and is there anything folks can do to help with this? Throw a few bucks towards server use, that sort of thing?
