@timapple I do however worry about the privacy implications, since they will be able to track people even more precisely than current cellular technology can. My phone is in airplane mode most of the time now because I don't use service anyway, but with companies selling data in all directions and police abusing their power, I don't like where this is going

There is enough negative scientific rumble to make me worry. And we know the Scientists with the most funding are most likely to be in the pocket of the people pushing the tech in the first place.
And of course IMHO, it's not necessary anyway. What we have now is fine... lets take it slow, study, and be sure before we make the world population telecoms Guinea pigs
@timapple There's no link between cell phone usage and cancer: https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/are-cell-phones-a-possible-carcinogen-an-update-on-the-iarc-report/
With higher frequencies, we get closer to... visible light. The worst these things will do is make your skin heat up a bit like the sun does. I'm not worried about any health effects, and as a society we have demonstrated that we don't care about lives in the face of convenience anyways, otherwise cars would have no place outside the race circuit.
@timapple what damage? It's still non-ionizing radiation, and I haven't seen any compelling evidence showing it's harmful.
SBM did a nice article about it, and I particularly liked the reference to automobiles in the introduction: https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/5g-is-coming/
