@terryenglish State sponsored ISP... That's a yikes. Maybe instead they should break up the ISP monopolies.
@terryenglish @jkthghts Yes,

t. lives under nefarious local government that seeks to remain a retirement home forever whiles committing all of the embezzlement.
@terryenglish Anything the government touchs turns to shit. There are also privacy issues with this, off the top of my head: "lets track them to make sure they aren't pedofiles!" (also, letting the government have access to your internet logs... that is... scary)

Since they would city sponsored that means they can never go bankrupt unless the city does which means new ISPs (tiny because they are new) can't do much against them, and the city itself could make itself the 'only ISP' allowed through 'clever laws' (much like Comcast and other monopoly ISPs). I only see horror down the line with this.

@Jessica The Republicans killed net neutrality, allowed ISP's to sell your browsing history and now they want to kill municipal broadband while it's still in the cradle.

@terryenglish yeah that news article is straight up lying. they should be trying to end monopolies by stopping ISP's from monopolizing certain areas
@terryenglish literally nobody wanted net neutrality to die, but fuckhead ajit pai was there to kill it off.
good fucking riddance he's gone now.
@terryenglish @Jessica net neutrality has nothing to do with selling customer data
