I do not think the far right exists in the numbers the far left appears to believe it does; if I had to pick one that seems like a threat, I'd pick the far left. It's two terrible flavors of authoritarianism, and I'm way down in the "the problem with the government is that it exists" camp.

@p @Jojothegoodperson the problem is, some people did take the trolling seriously, and ended up agreeing with it unironically. in 2007 people would deny the holocaust on /b/ "ironically" (or so i thought) and people would get into massive arguments over it, and i'd sit back and laugh because haha, newfags and gaiafags taking the internet too seriously. but now a decade on you've got an entire board full of people jerking each other off for how smart they are for seeing past the jewish lies. and i can't help but feel like there's some sort of causal link between those two things. pic very much related.

well, i'm with you on that. i feel like most far lefties i encounter feel similarly, but i probably can't extrapolate that.

i do think the u.s. and a number of other countries are veering in a distinctly right-authoritarian and ethnocentric direction, though. that's demonstrably true if your measuring stick is electoral politics. no, trump and bolsonaro aren't literally hitler (tm), but they certainly both represent a shift toward reactionary social politics and neoliberal capitalist economics. not to mention the growing prevalence of groups like generation identity, identity evropa/american identity movement, atomwaffen division, and their "diet" companions patriot prayer/proud boys...it's enough to make me worry.
