We're going to switch the develop environment back to a non-groups build with more enhancements and fixes.
Basically, groups is still in it's own branch. When we are testing that, this will have groups. When we are testing [other], we switch back to the develop branch.
So, you are going to see Groups disappear here for a bit while we quality a new batch of changes on their way to prod. Once we're done with that, we'll be switching back to groups.

@robcolbert I'm getting direct messages from people outside of gab and can't reply to them. Why is this basic native to mastodon feature available in gab?
@DavidBond we made a decision back before the 4th of July to pull DMs from our UI because they don't meet people's privacy expectations when they think of a DM.
At some point, we're entirely ripping out the whole feature and the ability to even receive those broken messages while entirely not caring if that's not Fediverse-compatible. DMs are simply broken. I really can't see us leaving them in or trying to "fix" them because screw _all_ of that.
To replace DMs, we will be building out a proper chat system that works more like Chat used to work on Gab but better.
@x @robcolbert @DavidBond I guess some sort of collaboration with some of the other major developers on the #fediverse to create an improved and compatible chat experience for everyone is out of the question. Given the state of things politically/socially. ๐ *sigh*
@terryenglish @x @robcolbert @DavidBond
Hmm DM can be seen by admin if they look in Database.
Something like Jsxc can be implemented its fediverse compatible as it uses xmpp.
Whoa what the fuck yeah thats bad
@terryenglish @x @robcolbert
@DavidBond Yup! That is why something like Jsxc can help.
Ok this is bad..
you can't trust a host that you don't know and they can read our DM like Facebook do..
@x @robcolbert @DavidBond Maybe integrating an open standard like XMPP or Matrix? #LibremOne has a whole separate chat app in their services bundle which uses #Matrix but it would definitely be nice to see something more integrated.
