I torn on getting a #FairPhone 5.
On one hand it looks great and I'd love to support their mission.
But those 700€ without case (40€) and display protection (32€) is quite something to swallow.
I find the camera also only okay-ish. But since I post-process most of my pictures, that should be fine.
Maybe I should wait until I can put an alternate android rom without Google?
Decisions... maybe someone else can chime in and help me?
@Anachron If you support their mission, it probably means you'd be willing to keep it for a while. In all likelihood it's going to last you longer than any other phone would, meaning that it will, at the end of its lifetime, have been quite a bit cheaper than the alternatives.
The camera looks good to me, but it is of course not the best available, and by the time the phone needs to be replaced it'll be even more outdated. I think, however, that it's more than good enough for 95% of people.
@sab I am more than willing to support them.
You should know, when I decide for something it's pretty much set in stone. I am very careful when considering things so that people can count on my support once I decided to give it.
It's not really about the money, just that I don't want to set my focus on this one and realize it's not the right one for me.
I don't mind buying from startups or no-name brands. What's important for me is the mission and statement and my trust in them.
@Anachron In that case I can report that I am extremely happy with my Fairphone 3. Not only do I love the phone, but the company itself is responsive to customers.
At some point I sent them an email about something, and they were not only responsive; their team even sent me follow-up emails to make sure things were working out well. And what I emailed them about was no fault of theirs.
