Deleted my affirming Friday post because I can't escape pervy guys replying to me.

I guess that's one more thing I don't get to do here anymore.

@vkc I know that @thisismissem is working on trust & safety tools for mastodon, I wonder if she has any thoughts on what tools can help with this problem or if others are working on them?

@mpanhans @vkc my understanding is that you're on a single user instance, and unfortunately at the status quo operating an instance means taking on responsibility for moderation.

There's a few rough ideas for allowing externalisation of moderation, in which case you need to trust the mods & services that they operate to provide that service.

I know that looks bleak. I think things like reply controls and quote posting controls can help, but those still require significant work to make.

@mpanhans @vkc

I am working on a project to share moderation data, but the current working model is that we should always involve moderators in applying decisions about their instances, because moderators should be in control.

There's also some work going into better federation management (that's a €10k type of project itself)

@mpanhans @vkc

A lot of the issues stem from fundamental flaws in the original protocol design from a decade ago. Pushing things forwards is incredibly slow and difficult without money.

There's not enough funding for very critical work that everyone desires.

Systems like BlueSky have their own unique problems — Ozone labellers receive every report from what I can tell, and there's only some avoiding the problem by relying on things like HiveAI.
