I love how I have to have two Element apps on my phone because I cannot accept invites with one of them

@merlin
It's always wise to have a spare!
What if you get logged out in one of them and don't have any other device or your encryption key on you? Easy — log in using another device, verify it with your other app, then use this new device to verify the original app that got logged out! 🤣

@m0xee that has happened enough times for it to not be a joke anymore 😭😭 also my encryption keys are permanently broken

Yeah, sadly this used to happen a lot in the past.
I cannot establish an encrypted 1-on-1 room with one of my friends, she lives in a different country now so fixing this by trial and error is problematic. When she was coming to visit me I thought that I could use this opportunity to fix this for good. And I more or less understand how things work… Still couldn't do it — seems impossible without completely resetting the keys on her account😩

@m0xee @merlin been having the same problem with one of my colleagues. I'm now looking into standing up a Snikket instance for us instead. At least XMPP works widely.

@hyc
I believe this was just a bug that has been fixed since then, but that left her account in this state, I don't want to go back to XMPP just because of this once TBH
Besides, Element works more or less consistently across platforms — even voice calls work (most of the time 🤭)
Dealing with XMPP clients is a mixed bag — especially for the less geeky folk.
