Assad & Putin can go die together in a fire but I am very much not hopeful about what is coming up in #Syria.

You know of course the US is pulling some strings when miraculously well equipped and well funded religious extremists are systematically referred to as “The Rebels”.

Ended so well the last time.

Me as well — I doubt it would be all roses in the coming decade and maybe more, then maybe — there is hope.
But thinking that it would be better with the dictator is still wrong — the longer they stay in power the worse it gets after they fall.

@m0xee @santiago I'm honestly not as hopeful as you. Afghanistan has shown us that Islamists can make things *even worse*, by a long margin.

@duncan_bayne @m0xee Libya is another example where bringing down the authoritarian leader threw the country in utter chaos & misery.

If our western governments were what they pretended to be and actually wanted to promote democracy I could be hopeful. But it’s only about power and resources. Business Friendly dictatorship such as Saudi Arabia have never been a problem but non-submissive democracies in Latin America were.
