note to the mechanical keyboard community: Do NOT clean your keyboard. The Dorito crumbs and hair that builds up on the plate will soften and refine the sound. This is called seasoning.

These HP keyboards are surprisingly decent for a membrane keyboard. I used to have quite a stash of them and let my friends borrow them when their mechanical keyboards were breaking down. I think I still have 3 or so left, lol 😂

@m0xee @icedquinn @RustyCrab
They aren’t bad, I just know that once I went to Cherry whites I couldn’t go back
@FailurePersonified @RustyCrab @m0xee kailh pink (sometimes sold as gchocs, since they were originally made for the defunct g heavy industries) :blobcatpuffyohhh:

though i use some seaweed 35g thing because thats what these really cheap alices used
@FailurePersonified @RustyCrab @m0xee there was a while i used to get new [membrane] keyboards just to feel better. that sort of stopped with the mechanicals (and also kinda ran out of new keyboards)
@icedquinn @RustyCrab @m0xee same; swapping membranes when they got old until I learned my click could be something more definite and permanent
@FailurePersonified @RustyCrab @m0xee well they were just too expensive to buy more of at that point.
@icedquinn @RustyCrab @m0xee absolutely, and there’s some weird emotional thing (for me at least) when it comes to the wasteful aspect of it.

You eventually form some sort of connection with the board
@icedquinn @RustyCrab @m0xee never used kailh and I have limited knowledge of the domain; which would you consider the best?
@FailurePersonified @RustyCrab @m0xee my sofle has kail choc pinks. i rather like the 20g of force but most people don't

if you want a kung fu finger penance machine as your keyboard, i guess
@FailurePersonified @dcc @RustyCrab @m0xee typed 12-16 hours a day for too many years. fingers and wrists are nubs nowadays
@dcc @icedquinn @RustyCrab @m0xee oooh shoot I have an old omnikey with alps switches. One of my all time favorites
@dcc @icedquinn @RustyCrab @m0xee probably since the only reason I don’t keep with my Omni is because she’s TIRED and the switches have definitely seen better days as well as the caps
@FailurePersonified @dcc @icedquinn @m0xee I always get PBT caps when I can because they basically never wear out. I've had mine for 5 years and they still look brand new.
@RustyCrab @dcc @icedquinn @m0xee
My WASD V3 have them and they hold up pretty well from the look of it, however my ABS (with the coating) on my V2 is showing a little wear
@dcc @RustyCrab @icedquinn @m0xee

Coming back to this and I can confirm that I quite like the clickz’s (picked up some for one of my Bluetooth KB that had some pretty shit Mx knock offs) and I confirm that it makes the keyboard not only usable but quite satisfying. Very alps you weren’t joking, I forgot I wasn’t using my old omni after a while.

All around mint 👌
