So... is there any properly pseudonymous email provider now that cock.li is having trouble?

@Hyolobrika
Isn't it a good opportunity to self-host it? 😜

@m0xee I've heard that email from self-hosted servers ends up in spam folders. But maybe it's good enough for signing up to things?
@Hyolobrika @m0xee I have been using my own domain with generic commodity (CPanel/WHM shared hosting, don't even care to name the host since they're all going to be the same and charge around the same) for around 90% of my incoming e-mail for about the last 5 years with little issue; occasionally you'll get some places (AliExpress, certain banks) that raise a fuss about e-mail hosts not on their whitelist, but overall it's been great
@Hyolobrika @m0xee I have been teling myself “I'm going to migrate this over to self hosted some day” for 3 of those 5 years... the upside to doing it off your own domain is that you don't have to go updating all the places/people you gave your e-mail to when you eventually move the backend over; the downside is there's no sense of urgency forcing you to actually go through with the move

Exactly! I'm using Proton with my own custom domain and I'm still reluctant whether to make the plunge and switch to self-hosting it😅
On the one hand, I really want to use just basic SMTP and IMAP instead of relying on proton-bridge/hydroxide, this would also allow me to use this email address with DeltaChat.

On the other, it just works™, it doesn't cost too much, considering that I also use their VPN services, and Proton is a trustworthy company in my book.
I agree, when switching is optional, it kinda demotivates.
