#Russia Central Bank has just raised base rate to 19%

Base rate is the loan interest rate that serves as the base for any loans served by other banks who add their interest on top - eg in the US it’s now 5.5%, UK 5%, which gives you an idea what rates are common in healthy economies.

Worth mentioning that they did it because the inflation rate turned out higher than they have anticipated — and it was already supposed to be quite high according to their forecast, but it has exceeded that. And they do not rule out having to raise it again later this year.
