@Kitty I still don't understand why so many people on Mastodon don't use it! I use it often: to say "I've seen your post" or as a like. When I boost AND favourite: "I boost this because I think it's good". Boosts without favourite: "I still have no idea what to think about it but I'd like to share it for others.
And I like that we have no algorithms like on other platforms (even if the explore-timeline counts boosts).

Also, even though there is no algorithm in Twitter sense, and I don't know whether this is true for Mastodon, but for other Fediverse software such as Pleroma it is: if someone I follow likes the post — although I don't see it on my "Home" timeline, but I see it on global "Known Network" timeline — the instance I'm on at least retrieves the post that someone I follow liked and I can discover it via search or the global timeline, so it still helps post's visibility.
@m0xee It may be different in parts of the fediverse but on Mastodon it works like this: https://fedi.tips/does-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-use-algorithms-does-it-start-pushing-stuff-at-me-based-on-my-interactions/ via @FediTips
