Surprisingly sober and balanced commentary from #Russia channel “Nezygar”
The terrorist attack in Krokus corresponds to the modus-operandi (modus operandi) of ISIS. Since the beginning of the year, law enforcement agencies have received information about the activation of ISIS Khorasan militants in Russia. “It was mainly about guest travellers from Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.”
Recall that on 7 March, the US Embassy in Russia warned about the threat of terrorist danger in the Russian Federation in the next 48 hours. “The embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have plans to attack large gatherings in Moscow, including concerts, and US citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours,” read a message on the diplomatic mission’s website.
On the morning of 7 March, the FSB conducted a special operation in the village of Koryakovo, Kaluga Region. As a result, two suspects in preparation for the terrorist attack - Kazakh citizens Sabit Ashiraliev, 35, and Dzhanibek Taskulaev, 32 - were killed. According to Kazakh law enforcers, they arrived in Russia on 28 February this year.
According to the FSB, members of the group “Wilayat Khorasan” (a branch of the Islamic State) were planning an armed attack on a Moscow synagogue. Earlier, on 17 February, the FSB reported about the prevention of a terrorist attack in Kaluga region: two natives of Central Asian republics, who were planning a terrorist attack at a chemical industry enterprise, were liquidated.
Two groups of terrorists were liquidated by March; whether the security services knew about the third group is still a question. But Western intelligence agencies said there might have been such a group.
After receiving the warning from the U.S. Embassy, the Federal Security Service (FSB) imposed a heightened round-the-clock watch for counter-terrorism and transport units in Moscow and the surrounding regions from 8 to 10 March. Strengthened control was also observed during the election period.
There is a version that terrorists were planning a terrorist attack in Crocus during the concerts of Shaman. The concerts were held from 9 to 11 March. But strengthened regime in Moscow, liquidation of one of the groups of terrorists and public statements of the embassy of the USA and western countries could postpone the execution of the terrorist act in Moscow.
The 22 March terrorist attack was carried out just in the interim. “Elections were held in Russia, the reinforced regime was gradually lifted; the security agencies were tired. Even the fact that in Crocus the search of visitors allegedly did not work says a lot. The terrorists took advantage of this calmness,” says the veteran of the security services.

Of course, plenty of Russian “Z-channels” instantly blamed Ukraine and “collective West”. Such comments were posted by many figures, for example senator Andrey Klischas who wrote something to the effect that “it may have been performed by ISIS but we also know the organizers are in the collective West and Ukraine”. His comment was also reposted by the same “Nezygar” channel as above.

@kravietz
This at least looks like a somewhat believable version, unlike most of those in circulation — will probably become the official one.
Obviously as its not linked to Ukraine, it won't be easy to spin it the right way in the wake of new "mobilization", but they can still use it to crack down further on civil liberties. Will probably also attempt to use it to make information exchange among intelligence agencies possible again.
@kravietz
Oh no, they ARE attempting to pin in on Ukraine: https://t.me/rian_ru/237470
I had my suspicions when they claimed that they have intercepted the car at Three Sisters border in the morning, but I still wasn't sure they'd go for it. So lame 🤦
@kravietz
TBH it isn't much easier for me to buy the ISIS story — people usually read about terrorists and get all emotional imagining those who just like to shoot people and blow up stuff — for no good reason, but terrorist in fact are those who use terror for political gain, killing people and blowing stuff up isn't worth anything when no demands are made. And what demands even in theory could be?
That and the fact that Kremlin keeps most players of the Mid East close, including the nastiest…
@kravietz hard to imagine that they have no informants in these circles at all 🤷
But Ukraine theory doesn't stand any critical thinking at all — killing dozens of civilians makes you expect you might be killed in a shootout, and they are claiming that one of the detainees was doing it for $10k? 🤔
And attempting to escape together on the same car through the part of border that is likely, due to recent incursions, most closely monitored at the moment? 🤦
