🇪🇺 🇷🇺 Uneven enforcement, trade diversion, and complex financial structures are hampering enforcement of EU economic sanctions imposed against Russia, Euronews has been told by multiple sources.
I think that this in the article deserves highlighting:
“According to a 2021 paper by EU criminal justice agency Eurojust, the maximum fines for breaching sanctions — set and enforced nationally — are as low as €1,200 in Estonia, while in Spain it isn’t even a crime.”

I've read The Many Faces of Corruption — a whole textbook about fighting corruption by two World Bank dudes. This one: https://elibrary.worldbank.org/doi/abs/10.1596/978-0-8213-6725-4
It's mostly about countering it on state level and barely touches international measures, but anyway — it has an excellent chapter on customs.
And ever since it never ceases to amaze me how little of it actually gets implemented — even in relatively less corrupt EU countries 😩
