I just told the Uber Eats driver that we do have a doorbell. A functioning one, even.
He seemed to not grasp the concept, stammering something about “the äpp”.

My reply was more of a pun on how everything is an app nowadays and how you're supposed to have a phone to use that app even if that was perfectly possible without it just yesterday and how these phones turned into privacy nightmares 😅

I don't think that making a call is rude, most often I explicitly request it from deliveries in a comment — this way they can notify me and I can respond that they can leave it at the door so I can go and pick it up right away without getting dressed and putting on respirator. The fact that they are making a call instead of using doorbell is a great way to make sure they have read this comment and that no one is standing there waiting for me to open the door.

if I ask them to, sure, but if not, the doorbell is the standard thing to do
