According to modern research contrary to popular belief the human brain cannot store events indefinitely most of the old memories go away except for those which have strong emotional feelings attached to them. The rest are converted to facts and concepts and are stored in our semantic memory. The skills we learn are stored in another part of our long term memory called the procedural memory.
