I'm thinking of switching to #Sway as my #desktop. What should I know going into it? I've mostly stuck with #xfce for years. What about #i3m or #awesomewm?

#Linux

@profoundlynerdy I love Sway! It's compatible with most i3 configs, and Wayland is so much more responsive. It does take a bit of configuring and memorization to take full advantage of though. Are you familiar with tiling window managers?

@absentbird No, only what I've gleaned through Wikipedia articles. My assumption is that it has vim-like bindings. Maybe some tmix-like bindings too?

I'm just tied of my desktop filling full of random crap, the Granny Desktop look, if you take my meaning. A tiling window manager would force me to park things somewhere else -- ideally where they're supposed to go.

Sway has this thing called scratchpad — it's where you have stuff that you want to have running, but don't have proper place for its windows in your current layout, so they live in this limbo with their windows hidden, but you can always bring them back if you want to.
Sway wiki has a nice list of software that works well with it: github.com/swaywm/sway/wiki/Us
