It has nothing to do with your opinion on whether they “need” your money. There are also good affordable alternatives that you should be supporting and paying for instead, like the affinity products.

I can't even think of a good reason why everyone was pirating it. Console version of unrar was available for download from official website like… always. Even if console programs aren't your thing there were wrappers around it that made it look like a GUI app. In most cases people pirate shit they don't even need instead of using free alternatives, which if they got popular, would make piracy unnecessary 🤷
