Debian gnome performance on my Thinkpad is just hot garbage, it's struggling to play 720p videos on YouTube, I even wrote a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf. Switch from wayshit to xorg, firefox to brave, it's awful. OpenBSD is faster than this crap. And it's overheating with new thermal paste on my cpu. I used Debian gnome back in 2021 on this same machine and it was 3 times as fast, videos were butter smooth at 720p and even 1080p, what the fuck happened?

How could that happen? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
My decade old Core i5 HP laptop plays 4k h265 videos with mpv just fine! I mean it does drop frames, but it's not THAT bad. And for h264 it uses hw decoder, YT videos are low complexity, so playback uses like ~20% CPU. Even with post-processing and volume normalization for audio.
