i imagine they aren't doing it to consumer chips cuz consumers would pirate the cpu power :blobfoxlul:

@root Ooh, the old IBM mainframe trick! Intel actually tried that too in early 2000s. Internet wasn't that widespread so they had been just selling you more performant CPU for more money, but it was identical to the less performant. You could use a graphite pencil to connect two pins and unlock the multiplier to turn your 300MHz Celeron into 500MHz Celeron 😄
