@ryan
I've been curious about Awesome for more than a decade, since my openbox/fluxbox days, but I ended up using dwm for X11 and sway for Wayland.
I got lazy and, although my configs got more and more complex with time, these two look so straightforward and basic at a glance, while Awesome looks overwhelming. I still think it's worth checking out, but not today πŸ˜…

You can configure it to do pretty much anything. I've written lua functions to intercept notifications for certain apps to customize the sounds, suppress trial popups on Sublime, navigate the systray with keyboard shorts, everything but make it look as cool as the computers in the Wikileaks movie -- which can be done!

@ryan Extensibility is cool, but it's a disaster for someone like me: when I went back to Linux-based systems after using Mac OS X for a long time and a brief period of Windows, I was afraid to use Firefox because I knew I'd end up customizing everything, including every nook and cranny in its UI… And of course I did 🀣

I'm the same way. I just started working on a mac for work and one of my co-workers said ok here's how to turn on dark mode and I said no, I cannot be trusted, let's keep the work computer as boring as possible
